Unlocking Futures: Youths benefit from Access to Documentation program

Having primary documents is a crucial aspect of a youth’s life. Identification documents such as birth certificates and IDs are essential for youths to enrol in education, access healthcare, secure employment, access government services, and obtain travel documents. Without these documents, young people face significant challenges in accessing important services, including education and employment opportunities.

The Community Youth Development Trust (CYDT) is working tirelessly to bridge this gap in Matabeleland South through its Access to Documentation (ATD) program. CYDT has been dedicated to ensuring that youths in various communities obtain the documents that hold their future. The organization has assisted numerous youths in many parts of Matabeleland South, and the initiative has been warmly received and appreciated.

CYDT’s Access to Documentation program is empowering youths to reach their full potential, enabling them to contribute positively to their communities and societies. By providing youths with identification documents, the organization is playing a vital role in promoting youth development. The impact of this program is evident in the stories of the youths who have benefited from it.

One beneficiary, Nomalanga Ndlovu, expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the initiative.

“Before CYDT helped me get an ID, I faced various challenges. I had every wish to get a job like other youths, but because I had no ID, no one wanted to employ me. However, today I’m overjoyed with what CYDT’s ATD program has done for me. The organization helped me get an ID, and I was able to get a birth certificate for my child. Now, I’m eligible to get a job and start working,” she said.

Another youth beneficiary, Busisani Mpofu, highlighted that the organization’s support has greatly assisted him in getting an ID and acquiring birth certificates for his children.

“Before the organization assisted me, I struggled to get a job to support my family and get birth certificates for my children. I’m elated with the organization’s support, and I believe it has made a significant difference in the lives of many youths,” he said.

Thandazani Ndlovu shared a similar experience, noting that many youths in his community lack primary documents due to various challenges, including the loss of parents or relatives who are not forthcoming in helping them acquire these documents.

Lubalethu Mpala, another youth beneficiary, expressed his joy and gratitude to the organization for helping him acquire an ID, which enabled him to pursue his talent in athletics.

“Without the ID, I was unable to travel and represent my school in other places,” he said. “Now, I’m happily pursuing my talent and representing my school.”

By providing youths with identification documents, CYDT is unlocking opportunities for them. As the organization continues to work towards promoting access to documentation for youths, positive outcomes are expected. With the right support and resources, young people can reach their full potential and become the future leaders we need tomorrow.
