After realising the significance of raising Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (ASRHR) awareness through CYDT’s roadshows and voice up community engagement activities, Nobuhle Moyo, a young woman from Gwanda has written a play that brings to the fore the ASRHR challenges faced by young people.

Titled Mama l’m Sorry, the play brings into awareness the disturbing increase of teenage pregnancies during the troubling times of the Coronavirus pandemic. The play is divided into three acts with a total of eight scenes.

Some of the issues highlighted in the play include the way in which boys trick young women into having unprotected sex; telling them that they will perform a “pullout strategy” to prevent pregnancy, something they end up failing to do.

In a country that is facing an economic crisis, young people have no access to morning after pills to take after having unprotected sex something that has seen Gwanda and the whole of Mat South having high cases of teenage pregnancies.

The play is crucial in the fight for improved access to ASRHR services. Through the play, young people will get to know the importance of being smart and focused to avoid engaging in unprotected sexual activities at all cost.

The play also brings into awareness the work that must be executed by duty bearers to ensure that young people have access to their ASRHR. It is motivating to see that CYDT activities are increasing ASRHR consciousness among young people who are now determined to raise ASRHR awareness in their respective communities as well as demand improved ASRHR service delivery from responsible duty bearers.
