Youths have cited limited engagement between the taxpayers and local authorities as a major issue that needs to be improved. This comes after Gwanda residents raised concern over the local authority’s water billing system during a Youth Accountability Forum in Ward 4, Gwanda.

Youths believe that an easy way to understand the local authority`s water billing system is for the local authority to conduct more engagement meetings between them and the tax payers.

They said it was the responsibility of the local authorityto educate residents about the basics of the water rate structure that will help them to understand how their water bills are calculated

That way, residents will be able to look at their water bills and be able to determine not just the amount due, but how much   water they used in a month.

In this meeting, youths also got the opportunity to ask for an update on the Jahunda Redevelopment Project that is expected toupgrade the lives of Ward 4 residents who are currently living in the substandard single-roomed houses.

If successfully completed. the project that stalled years back due to alleged financial constraints would see semi-detached  three-roomed houses for 72 families being built in Jahunda.

Not only would this housing project provide residents with better shelter but it would also solve the toilet crisis that is currently being experienced by residents.

Over the years, young people have constantly challenged the Gwanda Municipality and its partners to prioritise and speed up the process. However. the situation continues todeteriorate on the ground.
