The Whistle Blower 3rd edition

This newsletter gives a detailed article on the findings of a needs assessment study commissioned by Community Youth Development Trust (CYDT) in partnership with the Zimbabwe Environmental Lawyers Association (ZELA) to gather insights from the miners and other stakeholders of a typical cadastral system which would be suitable for the pilot project that focuses on Matabeleland South. This newsletter also highlights how artisanal and small scale miners responded to the decision to allocate mining claims attributes by Farvic Consolidated Mine, a gold mine near West Nicholson in Matabeleland South. The newsletter also gives update on EPOs, in which miners are concerned by the fact that they have closed down mining lands for local miners since they cannot peg their titles in areas that are under EPOs. Service Delivery Barometer 3rd edition

This newsletter highlights the importance of community advocacy, detailing on how different communities have used advocacy to their advantage. Topping the list of stories, is how Gwanda residents have been lobbying their local authorities for improved water security, especially noting that it is high time ZINWA hands over the water treatment plant to the local authority as they believe it is the only way that will end water woes in the small mining town. The newsletter also shares youth’s perspectives and insights on the state of service delivery in their communities seeing that they have been monitoring service delivery issues after having been capacitated on that skill by the organization. Furthermore, the Newsletter shows how the youth, empowered with accountability and lobbying skills have been compelling duty bearers from both local and national levels to fulfill their commitment on providing good service delivery……..

The Whistle Blower 2nd edition

The newsletter shows Matabeleland South Small-scale miners’ concerns over EPOs which they believe have closed down spaces for locals since they cannot peg their titles in areas classified as EPOs. It goes further to show the impact of CYDT National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) Outreach meetings across the province. The support of Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) and other stakeholders like the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in carrying out these campaigns is also captured in this newsletter. Other issues that are included in the newsletter are; the influence of outsiders in the development of Mat South, conflict resolution in the mining sector, and how corruption makes it difficult for young people to participate in the mining sector. Service Delivery Barometer 2nd edition

Realizing that accountability is essential to evaluate progress made by duty bearers to improve service delivery, this newsletter provides evidence of the significant strides made by youths to demand improved service delivery as well as hold duty bearers to account. The newsletter highlights the importance of youths in exacting accountability. It shows how youth empowered with accountability and lobbying skills have been pressuring duty
bearers from both local and national levels to fulfill their commitments. At a time when civic spaces have been shrunk by the prevailing COVID 19 conditions, this newsletter demonstrates the role of new technologies in bridging communication gaps between duty bearers and youth. It shows the advantages of digitalisation towards improving town councils` service delivery platforms. The newsletter further highlights the importance of youth led social accountability advocacy.
